Espresso macchiato

2 minutes1 servingBy FREDDO ·

An espresso macchiato takes 2 minutes and 7 to 9 g of finely ground FREDDO Espresso plus a little milk foam. Pull an espresso of about 30 ml into a warmed cup and spoon one or two teaspoons of fine milk foam onto the centre. Macchiato is Italian for marked: the pale spot on the crema gives the drink its name. It tastes almost as bold as an espresso, just a little rounder.

Tips and variations

Espresso macchiato or latte macchiato?

An espresso macchiato is lots of espresso and little milk, a latte macchiato the other way round: 200 ml of milk in a tall glass, with the espresso added last.

Which milk should I use for an espresso macchiato?

Whole milk gives a creamy foam, low-fat milk a firmer one. 50 ml is enough for the small amount of foam; use the rest of the milk for a cappuccino.

What is a macchiato doppio?

A macchiato doppio is an espresso macchiato made with a double espresso from 18 g, bolder and a little larger.
